Malugod na ipinaabot ng Palasyo ang taos-pusong pasasalamat sa pamahalaan ng South Korea at mga mamamayan nito sa kanilang pakikiramay sa mga nasalanta ng Bagyong Agaton sa bansa.

Ayon kay Acting Presidential Spokesperson at Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar, sa pamamagitan ng isang solidarity statement ay ipinarating ni South Korean President Moon Jae-in ang pakikidalamhati ng kanilang bansa sa mga sinalanta ng bagyo sa Pilipinas, kamakailan.

Nakasaad sa liham ng South Korean leader na sa ngalan ng mga mamamayan ng South Korea ay kanilang ipinaaabot ang kanilang pakikiramay para sa lahat ng mga naulilang pamilya kasunod ng nagdaang kalamidad.

Salaysay pa sa liham, ramdam din umano ni SoKor Pres. Moon sa kanyang puso ang nararanasan ng mga pamilyang nawalan ng tahanan, kalakip ang pagpapahayag ng pag-asa para sa mga survivors na sana ay mabilis silang makabangon at makabalik sa dating pamumuhay.

Konektado sa Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga... South Korea, magtatayo ng ‘smart city’ sa ‘Pinas!

Ibinalita ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) nitong Abril 22, kahapon, na isang smart city ang itatayo ng Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) sa Clark Freeport Zone sa Pampanga.

Pirmado na ng government-owned Clark Development Corporation (CDC) at Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) ang smart city memorandum of understanding (MOU), sa pangunguna ni CDC President Manuel Gaerlan sa Philippine delegation sa signing ceremony na sinaksihan nina Philippine Embassy Economic Officer and Third Secretary Reisha Olavario at Commercial Counselor Jose Ma. Dinsay noong Abril 15, sa Songdo International Business District sa Incheon province, 30 kilometers southwest ng Seoul, South Korea.

Batay sa pinirmahang MOU, ipinahayag na ang LH ay magtatayo ng smart city na konektado sa Clark International Airport, na kalaunan ay magiging isang logistics hub na mayroong imprastruktura para sa tourism, recreation, at aviation maintenance.

Ani Gaerlan, inaasahan niya ang “technology sharing” sa pamamagitan ng MOU, partikular ang Korea communications network na gagamitin ng LH Urban Development para sa K-Smart City Development.

Hiwalay ding nakaharap ni Philippine Ambassador to South Korea, Ma. Theresa de Vega, ang mga CDC officials upang talakayin ang planong Manila-Seoul cooperation projects at investment promotion sa Clark Freeport Zone, sa hinaharap.

Ayon sa DFA, ang makabagong smart city ay gagamit umano ng artificial intelligence at malaking data para maproseso nang real-time ang mga impormasyon na kokolektahin sa pamamagitan ng mga sensors, at gagamitin naman ng mga city operators para mag-analyze ng mga datos para sa mga plano sa hinaharap.

"The Smart City MOU is a leap forward in the Philippines' shift to the 4th Industrial Revolution and a testament to the Philippines and Korea's shared ideas on prosperity in the Asia Pacific and our increased economic cooperation," pahayag ng DFA.

Foreign aid bumuhos sa mga nasalanta ng bagyong Odette

Bumuhos ang foreign aid para sa mga nasalanta ng bagyong Odette.

Kabilang sa mga bansang nagpadala at magpapadala pa ng tulong ay United States, Japan, China, South Korea, Canada, at Ireland.

Ang Washington, sa pamamagitan ng US Agency for International Development (USAID), ay magbibigay ng P10 million o $200,000 bilang immediate assistance bilang pagtugon sa mga komunidad na nasalanta ng bagyong Odette na may international name na Super Typhoon Rai.

Ang China naman ay magdo-donate ng emergency cash assistance na $1 million sa gobyerno ng Pilipinas upang matugunan ang mga pangangailangan sa Central Visayas at mga parte ng Mindanao.

Magbibigay naman ng generator, camping tent, sleeping pad, portable jerry can/water container, at tarpaulin/plastic sheet covers ang Japan. Habang ang disaster relief goods, ayon sa embahada nito, ay isi-ship sa bansa sa pakikipag-ugnayan sa Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Nagpaabot naman ng pakikisimpatya si US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Heather Variava sa mga naapektuhan ng pananalasa ng bagyo.

“The United States is providing Php10 million in immediate support, including food and shelter for communities affected by Typhoon Odette,” Variava said. “We are committed to working alongside our friends and partners to provide emergency supplies and recovery assistance.”

Kamakailan lang ay nauna nang sinabi ng China na nasa 20,000 food packages at P8 milyon na ang naipadala nilang tulong sa Pilipinas.

Samantala, ang South Korean government ay nangako rin na magpapadala ng USD2 million aid para sa recovery efforts, at USD50,000 para sa emergency relief operations.

"We are going to consult with major humanitarian partners. 50K USD will be used as emergency relief action for procuring and delivering rice to those affected by the Typhoon. 2 million USD will aim at supporting recovery efforts to build resilience and restore livelihoods in communities affected by typhoon," pahayag ng Korean Embassy Manila.

Magpapadala rin ang Canada ng financial assistance worth up to $3 million Canadian dollars (approximately P120 million) bilang pantugon sa relief efforts, kung saan ang $500,000 o P20 million ay ibibigay sa Red Cross, ayon kay Canada's International Development Minister Harjit Sajjan.

“Canada will always do our part to help in times of need. After a devastating typhoon, Global Affairs Canada will help our friends in the Philippines with up to $3M in assistance, including $500,000 for the urgent Red Cross response," aniya.

Nakatakda rin itong magbigay ng additional $50,000 mula sa Canadian Embassy's Canada Fund for Local Initiatives para sa relief efforts sa Caraga.

“My heart goes out to the people of the Philippines, whose lives have been forever changed by last week’s super typhoon. Canadians are sending our deepest condolences to those who lost loved ones - and we’ll keep everyone affected in our thoughts during this challenging time,” pahayag ni Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sa Twitter.

Ang Ireland naman ay nag-donate ng €250,000 or approximately P14 million sa UN World Food Programme's emergency response para sa Typhoon Odette.

“Wherever a disaster strikes, Ireland is ready to do our part to help save lives and restore the dignity of those who have been affected. In response to this crisis, I have approved funding of €250,000 to the UN World Food Programme," ayon sa pahayag ni Ireland’s Minister for Overseas Development Aid and Diaspora Colm Brophy T.D.

Sa ngayon ay patuloy ang relief operations para sa mga naapektuhan ng bagyong Odette, at nag-pledge na rin ang France at Australia, para sa disaster relief operations ng Pilipinas.
