Harry Roque tinanggihan ang alok na maging Comelec chairman

Inihayag ni former Palace spokesperson at ngayo’y senatorial aspirant Harry Roque na tinanggihan niya ang alok sa kanya na maging chairman ng Commission on Elections (Comelec).

“Perhaps for the first time I will reveal that the post of Comelec chairman was first offered to me,” pahayag ni Roque sa mga grupo ng reporters nitong Sabado.

Ayon pa kay Roque, hindi niya maaaring tanggapin ang alok na ito dahil siya ay ‘very loyal’ kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.

“I said, I cannot accept that because obviously I am presidential spokesperson, and I am correctly perceived as being loyal to the President, and that is why I decided not to accept it because I might destroy the integrity of the commission, knowing that I am very loyal to the President, which at that time, was contemplating a run for the Senate, and also the daughter was running,” dagdag pa ni Roque.

Roque, tatakbo sa pagka-senador sa 2022 elections

Naghain na si dating presidential spokesperson Harry Roque ng kanyang certificate of candidacy sa pagka-senador sa 2022 elections ngayong Lunes.

Si Roque ay tatakbo sa ilalim ng Peoples’ Reform Party (PRP), kung saan naghain ng kanyang kandidatura sa huling araw ng substitution period para sa susunod na eleksyon, subalit hindi pa malinaw kung sino ang kanyang pinalitan.

“Ito na po ang huling araw ko bilang presidential spokesperson. Nais ko maging action man sa Senado,” sabi ni Roque sa press briefing umaga ng Lunes.

Tinapos ni Roque ang kanyang huling press briefing kanina na ipinalabas ang video ni Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte habang iniendorso siya sa Senate bid para sa 2022 elections.

“Harry Roque will be our man of action in the Senate. Ibigay natin ang todo at buong suporta sa kanyang kandidatura,” sabi ni Mayor Sara na anak ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.

Matatandang sinabi ni Roque na tatakbo siya sa eleksyon kung si Mayor Sara ay tatakbo rin. Sasabak naman ang alkalde sa pagka-bise presidente.

Ang Peoples’ Reform Party ay itinatag ni yumaong Senador Miriam Defensor Santiago. Si Roque ay dati nang miyembro rito simula pa noong 2018.

Presidential Spox Harry Roque, bigong makakuha ng puwesto sa ILC

Bigo na makakuha ng puwesto si presidential spokesperson Harry Roque sa International Law Commission.

Sa 190 United Nations member-states, tanging 87 ang bumoto pabor kay Roque habang 150 naman ang naging boto ng ibang nominees.

"My candidature at the ILC was a challenging campaign throughout but we met it head on. Unfortunately, we did not succeed," pahayag niya sa kanyang social media account.

"I thank President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, for his nomination and unwavering support of my candidature. I thank the Department of Foreign Affairs, and the officers and staff of  the Philippines Permanent Mission to the United Nations, for their steadfast professionalism and support," dagdag niya.

Ginanap ang eleksiyon ng ILC members para sa five-year term sa pamamagitan ng secret ballot sa 32nd meeting ng United Nations General Assembly sa 76th session nito kahapon, Nov. 12, 2021.

Ang mga bagong miyembro ay kinabibilangan ng 9 nationals mula sa African States, 8 nationals mula sa Asia-Pacific States, 3 nationals mula sa Eastern European States, 6 nationals mula sa Latin American and Caribbean States, at 8 nationals mula sa Western European and other States.

Bukod sa Pilipinas, bigo ring makakuha ng puwesto ang mga representative ng Lebanon at Sri Lanka.

Matatandaang ilang araw bago ang botohan, sumulat ang 152 abogado mula sa bansa sa UN member-states na kumokontra sa ILC bid ni Roque.

Ilan sa mga rason nila ay ang pagtatanggol umano nito kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa kampanya nito sa ilegal na droga at mahinang pagtugon sa pandemya.
