Umusad na sa semifinals ng Asia Pacific Predator League 2024 Grand Finals ang mga Filipino teams matapos dominahin ang group stages ng tournament.

Pasok na ang DOTA 2 powerhouses na Blacklist Rivalry at Execration sa semifinals ng tournament. Nangibabaw ang Blacklist, sa pangunguna nina Abed Yusop at Kim “Gabbi” Santos, sa Group A matapos ang 4-0 steamrolling ng kompetisyon.

Nakuha rin ng Execration ang semifinal spot na may 3-1 na puwesto sa Group A, kasama ang kanilang nag-iisang talo sa kamay ng Blacklist Rivalry. Natapos ang dalawang Filipino squad sa Group A laban sa Mythic Avenue Gaming ng Malaysia, ZOL Esports ng Pilipinas at India’s Whoops.

Nangunguna ang Team Aster ng China sa Group B ng DOTA 2. Sa Valorant, tinapos ng Team Secret of the Philippines ang paglalaro ng grupo na walang talo kasunod ng dominanteng performance laban sa TODAK ng Malaysia at Ender Dragon ng Singapore.

Nabigo ang Oasis Gaming at ZOL Esports ng Pilipinas na makapasok sa playoffs. Sa mga huling yugto ng Predator League, ang Team Secret ay makakaharap sa Team Flash mula sa Vietnam, FAV Gaming mula sa Japan at BOOM Esports mula sa Indonesia.

Tinapos ng Japanese at Indonesian teams ang group stage nang walang talo. Gaganapin ang grand finals ngayong weekend Sabado sa Mall of Asia Arena.

Lumaki ang posibilidad na makapasok sa Summer Olympic Games ang Esports matapos na paboran ni International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach na makapagbuo ng Esports Games sa prestihiyosong sports event, matapos ang matagumpay na pagdaraos nito sa Southeast Asian Games at Asian Games.

Hindi maipagkakaila ang pag-angat ng mga Filipino online gamers sa pandaigdigang kumpetisyon kabilang ang paboritong Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, kung saan kasalukuyang ginaganap sa Pilipinas ang M5 World Championships sa EVM Convention Center sa Quezon City.

Ayon kay Bach, inatasan na nito ang IOC Esports Commission na pag-aralan ang pagsasagawa ng Olympic Esports Games kasunod umano ng mas lalo pang lumalaking popularidad ng Esports sa buong mundo, na inaasahang aabot sa tatlong bilyon ang maaaring lumahok mula sa iba’t ibang bansa. “What is even more relevant to us, a majority of them are under the age of 34,” pahayag ni Bach.
