Higit 15-carat… Pinakamalaking blue diamond, io-auction sa Abril

Nakatakdang i-auction ang isang bagong tuklas na pinakamalaki at most valuable na blue diamond sa Abril.

Ang mahigit 15-carat De Beers Cullinan Blue diamond ay namina noong 2021 sa Cullinan Mine sa South Africa, ang isa sa pinagmumulan ng mga pinaka-rare na blue diamond sa buong mundo.

Ito ay io-offer sa single-lot auction na gaganapin sa Sotheby’s Hong Kong sa Abril at tinatayang nagkakahalaga ng $48 million.

Ayon sa senior vice president and sales director for jewelry ng Sotheby’s na si Frank Everett, ‘remarkable on many levels’ ang naturang diyamante.

“It’s rare because of the size. It’s over 15 carats. It’s a vivid blue. It’s internally flawless. And really one of the most rare aspects of it is the cut,” ani Everett.

“I think we’re going to see tremendous interest in this stone when it finally comes to auction,” aniya pa. “The market is very strong for jewelry at the moment, has been really for the last several years, but one of the strongest segments is colored diamonds. And one of the strongest colors is blue.”

Minarkahan ito ng Gemological Institute of America (GIA) bilang fancy vivid blue — ang pinakamataas na color grading ayon sa Sotheby’s, kung saan hindi hihigit ng 1 percent ng mga blue diamonds na dinala sa GIA ang nakatanggap nito.

‘Third largest' diamond, natagpuan sa Botswana

Natagpuan sa Botswana ang 1,098-carat stone na pinaniniwalaang third largest diamond sa buong mundo, ayon sa Debswana Diamond Company noong Miyerkules.

Noong June 1 natagpuan ang naturang bato na ipinakita kay President Mokgweetsi Masisi.

Pahayag ni Debswana Managing Director Lynette Armstrong, "This is the largest diamond to be recovered by Debswana in its history of over 50 years in operation.

"From our preliminary analysis it could be the world's third largest gem quality stone. We are yet to make a decision on whether to sell it through the De Beers channel or through the state owned Okavango Diamond Company."

Ang pinakamalaking diamond sa mundo na nadiskubre ay ang 3,106-carat Cullinan na natagpuan sa South Africa noong 1905.

Ang second largest diamond naman ay ang 1,109-carat Lesedi La Rona na kasinglaki ng isang tennis ball na nadiskubre sa Karowe, northeastern Botswana noong 2015.
