Kakanselahin at idi-dispose na ng Department of Foreign Affairs ang mga unclaimed passport hanggang January 2021, ayon sa ahensiya.

"The Department of Foreign Affairs - Office of Consular Affairs informs the public that effective 07 February 2022 the Department will implement the cancellation and proper disposal of all unclaimed passports which were scheduled for release before January 2021 in accordance with DFA Department Order No. 2021-012 on the Disposal of Unclaimed and Spoiled Passports," ayon sa advisory na inilabas ng DFA.

Gayunman, para sa mga magke-claim pa lamang na naka-schedule for release noong January 2021 o mas maagang petsa ay mayroong hanggang March 1, 2022 upang i-claim sa DFA Consular Office kung saan ipinroseso ang mga passport.

Samantala, ayon pa sa ahensiya: "[t]hose who are unable to claim their passports before 10 February 2022 must file a new passport application after securing a certificate of unclaimed passport from DFA Aseana or at the DFA Consular Office where the unclaimed passports were processed.”

"Passports that were scheduled for release after January 2021 are not affected and may be claimed from the DFA Consular Office where they were processed," dagdag pa nito.

Hinihikayat ng DFA ang mga passport applicants na i-claim ang kanilang passports within 30 days mula sa scheduled release.

Kung hindi man ma-claim personally, puwedeng magpadala ng authorized person upang i-claim ang passport basta kumpleto ang requirements na makikita sa DFA website.

Dating DFA chief Romulo, pumanaw na

Pumanaw na si dating Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Roberto “Bobby” Romulo sa edad na 83 nitong Linggo, Enero 23, 2022.

Ito ang kinumpirma ng kanyang opisina ngayong Lunes, subalit hindi na binanggit pa ang naging sanhi ng pagpanaw ni Romulo. “The schedule of masses and novena prayers will soon be announced at www.romulofoundation.org,” pahayag nito.

Ayon sa Carlos P. Romulo Foundation, nagsimula ang dating DFA chief na magserbisyo sa gobyerno noong Hunyo 1989 nang siya ay ma-appoint na Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and the Commission of the European Communities.

Naitalaga rin si Romulo bilang top envoy ng bansa noong 1992 at nanatili sa posisyon hanggang 1995.

Matatandaang ilang buwan bago pumanaw si Romulo, binato niya ng kritisismo si Pangulo Rodrigo Duterte dahil sa aniya, “squandering the weight of global public opinion in the Philippines’ favor following the ruling of the UN arbitration court invalidating China’s claim on the South China Sea by meekly standing by.”

Dahil sa Omicron variant.. Halos 100 Pinoy stranded sa Europe at South Africa — DFA

Halos 100 na mga Pilipino ang stranded sa Europe at Africa matapos na 14 bansa mula sa naturang rehiyon ang isinailalim sa red list ng Pilipinas sa gitna ng banta ng Omicron COVID-19 variant.

Ayon kay Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Sarah Lou Arriola, tinatayang 50 Pinoy ang stranded sa Europe, kung saan pitong bansa ang nasa red list hanggang Disyembre 15. Ito ay ang Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, at Italy.

“So far we have more or less 50 Filipinos stranded in Europe,” ani Arriola at the Laging Handa public briefing ngayong Sabado. Sa South Africa naman, tinatayang 49 Pilipino ang stranded, kung saan ang South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Eswatini, at Mozambique ay una nang inilagay sa red list matapos na ang Omicron variant ay unang mai-report sa naturang rehiyon.

“We just received word this morning from our post in South Africa that there are around 49 [stranded OFWs],” dagdag ni Arriola. Ang mga pasahero na nagmula o nanggaling sa mga bansa na inilagay sa red list ng bansa sa loob ng huling 14-araw ay hindi papayagang pumasok sa Pilipinas.

Sinabi naman ni Arriola na nag-organisa na ang gobyerno ng repatriation flights mula sa Europe na nakatakda sa Disyembre 10 at 13.

Subalit aniya, nahihirapan itong isagawa sa South Africa dahil sa karamihan sa mga transit countries ay ayaw tumanggap ng mga flights mula roon, kung saan ang Omicron ay unang na-detect sa naturang bansa.

“Ang kailangan po namin talaga at the moment, nakikiusap po kami, makipag-ugnayan po tayo sa ating mga embahada so that we can help you,” sabi pa ni Arriola.

Payo ni Arriola sa mga stranded overseas Filipinos hinggil sa kanilang repatriation, maaaring bisitahin ang DFA’s official OFW Help Facebook Page para sila ay kanilang matulungan.

“We stand ready in DFA, all our posts are prepared. We pray that other countries will no longer be added under the red list, but should it happen, all our embassies and consulates around the world, we stand ready to assist,” saad pa ni Arriola.
