Malalaking tarpaulin, nakuha ‘Operation Baklas,’ start na — Comelec

Sinimulan ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) ngayong Miyerkules ang pagbabaklas ng mga campaign posters ng mga kandidato na napakalaki at lagpas sa itinakdang sukat o nakapaskil sa mga maling lugar.

Katuwang ng ahensiya ang Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) sa ikinasang “Operation Baklas” sa buong National Capital Region (NCR).

Sa isang livestreaming na ipinalabas ng Comelec’s official Facebook page, pinagbabaklas ng mga awtoridad ang mga campaign poster ng dalawang magka-tandem na mga kandidato sa pagka-pangulo at pangalawang pangulo dahil sa malalaking tarpaulin na nakapaskil na nagpo-promote sa mga ito.

Aabot lamang sa 2 by 3 feet ang pinakamalaking campaign poster na pinapayagan ng Comelec, kahit pa nakapaskil ito sa pribadong pag-aari katulad ng mga tirahan.

Sa isang press conference, ayon kay Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez, “we’re just making steps to ensure that our laws are complied with.”

Itinago naman sa MMDA ang mga binaklas na posters habang hindi ito ibabalik sa mga kandidato dahil maaaring gamitin itong ebidensiya sa pagsasampa ng election offense.

Disqualification cases ni Marcos, ibinasura na ng Comelec First Division

Bumoto para i-dismiss ang Commission on Elections (Comelec) First Division sa tatlong consolidated disqualification cases na inihain laban kay presidential candidate dating Senador Ferdinand “Bongbong/BBM” Marcos Jr., ito ang kinumpirma ni Commissioner Aimee Ferolino ngayong araw.

Ayon kay Comelec spokesman James Jimenez, ibinasura na ng division ang mga petisyon nina Bonifacio Ilagan, Abubakar Mangelen, at Akbayan dahil aniya, “for lack of merit.”

Batay sa mga petitioners, hindi dapat payagan si Marcos na tumakbo sa pagka-pangulo dahil siya ay na-convict sa paglabag sa Internal Revenue Code, kung saan anila, “carried a penalty of perpetual disqualification from holding any public office.”

Ipinunto nila na noong 1995, “a Quezon City court convicted Marcos for not filing his income tax return from 1982-1984. The conviction was upheld by the Court of Appeals but removed the imprisonment sentence.”

Ayon pa sa kanila si Marcos ay hindi umapela sa ruling.

Samantala, ang resolution ng First Division ay ipinahayag ilang sandali bago mag-alas-5:00 ng hapon ngayong Huwebes, ang ikatlong araw ng national election campaign period.

Walang patid ang power supply sa Election Day — Comelec

Tiniyak ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) sa publiko na walang patid ang suplay ng kuryente sa darating na Election Day.

Sa isang interview ngayong Huwebes, sinabi ni Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez na kasalukuyang nakikipag-ugnayan ang Comelec sa mga pangunahing power suppliers gayundin sa mga electric cooperatives sa buong bansa sa pagtugon sa isyu ng power supply.

“These are foreseeable so what we’re doing now is we’re putting together a group, a working group with the Comelec and the different power producers in the country. And one of the first steps, of course, is we will provide them with a calendar of the critical periods or critical points of the election process. So if ever they’re going to schedule power interruptions like maintenance breaks or things like that, they will know to avoid those critical moments,” paliwanag ni Jimenez.

Ayon kay Jimenez, nang isagawa ng poll body ang mock elections sa Pasay City noong Disyembre ng nakaraang taon, nagsagawa naman ng kanilang sariling parallel dry run ang Meralco (Manila Electric Company).

“We are in coordination with these different power producers and so we’re able to scramble resources immediately if and when it becomes necessary. Hindi natin madi-discount ‘yung possibility na may matutumbang linya or may magda-down na grid. We are coordinating with them so that we can respond to that very quickly,” ani pa Jimenez.

Noong mga nakaraang eleksyon, ang Comelec ay may mga nakalaang standby power generator sets sakali mang magkaroon ng power interruptions. “We’re very confident that as we move closer to the elections, we’ll have steady power supply,” sabi ni Jimenez.
