“Amendments or insertions, whether individual or institutional, done during the deliberations in the Senate, are part of the regular budget process,” ayon kay Sotto.

Idinagdag din niya na, “It is unfortunate that the issue on ghost projects and failed flood control projects affect and generalized all amendments as illegal or improper.”

“Rest assured that for the 2026 budget, the Senate will institute changes for greater transparency, people’s participation and accountability,” saad pa nito.

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) advanced its environmental sustainability goals through significant gains in water loss reduction and reforestation, delivering measurable benefits to both customers and ecosystems.

Under its “Mark the 39 Percent” Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Management Program, Maynilad reduced system losses to 38.4 percent in 2024, down from 43 percent the year before. The company completed 57,562 leak repairs, aided by AI-assisted monitoring tools and acoustic sensors that enabled early detection and predictive maintenance. It also implemented intensified enforcement efforts to curb commercial losses. These initiatives helped recover millions of liters of treated water daily, contributing to a more efficient and climate-resilient supply system.

Meanwhile, Maynilad continued to expand its Plant for Life reforestation initiative, which rehabilitates upland watersheds and coastal areas that are critical to Metro Manila’s raw water supply. Since the program’s launch in 2007, it has planted more than 1.4 million trees and mangroves across approximately 1,968 hectares. The program also supports local communities—such as the Dumagat indigenous group in the Ipo watershed—by integrating sustainable livelihood components in nursery work and site maintenance.

“Our progress in cutting water losses and planting over a million trees proves how ESG principles translate into real benefits for customers and communities,” said Maynilad Chief Sustainability Officer Atty. Roel S. Espiritu.

These results were recently recognized at the Inquirer ESG EDGE Impact Awards 2025, a new initiative honoring organizations with outstanding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance. Maynilad’s NRW program earned a Gold award in the Environmental category, while its Plant for Life program received a Silver award for Sustainable Ecosystems and Biodiversity Conservation.
