Pagkaraan ng naging matagumpay na operasyon sa kanyang tuhod, nakatuon ang pansin ngayon ni Filipino Olympian pole vaulter EJ Obiena sa mga darating na kompetisyon na nakatakda nyang salihan.

Isinaayos ang left miniscus ni Obiena sa operasyong isinagawa sa Germany kung saan may tinanggal ding screw buhat sa isinagawa sa kanyang ACL reconstruction noong 2017. “Surgery was successful,” pahayag ni Obiena sa kanyang official social media page.

“They have cleaned the meniscus and have removed the screw on my knee from the ACL reconstruction back in 2017 as the bone graft has fully solidified.” Target ni Obiena na sumabak sa Init Indoor Meeting, ang una niyang torneo ngayong 2022 na gaganapin sa Karlsruhe, Germany sa Enero 28. “It shouldn’t affect my recovery and we’re still on and aiming for the 28th of January competition,”dagdag ni Obiena.

Pinasalamatan din ni Obiena si Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Butch Ramirez para sa tulong pinansiyal na ibinigay ng ahensiya sa kanyang operasyon.

Kasalukuyan pa ring nasa gitna ng hidwaan si Obiena at ang Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) hinggil sa problema tungkol sa funding na inabot na ng halos dalawang buwan.

“Thank you very much for everyone who helped and supported me to make this surgery possible as early as yesterday,” saad pa ng 26-anyos na pole vaulter. “I am also thankful for Chairman Butch Ramirez announcing yesterday that funds for my surgery are available,” saad nito. “I may be able to use this money once available to me to reimburse the advances of good samaritans. “My most immediate task is to get healthy and get back on track so that I can compete again for the country. Everything else is priority number 2. Time for work to be done!!!”

Kaliwa't kanan ang suporta at simpatiyang natatanggap ni 2020 Tokyo Olympian at World No.6 men’s pole vaulter Ernest “EJ” Obiena mula sa iba’t ibang personalidad mula sa palakasan, politika, at sa publiko na patuloy na nakikipaglaban sa pinaniniwalaang karapatan at katotohanan hinggil sa alegasyong maling paggamit ng pambayad sa foreign coach at di umano’y falsification of liquidation documents ng kanyang mother federation.

Sa kabilang banda, nanatiling naninindigan para sa 26-anyos na Asian pole vault record holder at 2019 SEA Games gold medalist ang Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) na gagawin ang lahat upang makapagpatuloy sa pagsabak sa 31st SEAG sa Hanoi, Vietnam, 19th Asian Games sa Hangzhou, China at sa 2024 Paris Olympics kasunod ng deklarasyon ng Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) na tuluyan ng alisin sa national training pool at maaaring makasuhan ng criminal charges. “We in the POC will make sure EJ will be in Hanoi and and in all other major world competitions. Samantala, ikinalungkot ngunit hindi ikinagulat ni Obiena ang naging aksyon ng kanyang mother federation ukol sa desisyong alisin siya sa national pool, habang nakahanda umano itong harapin ang kasong isasampa sa kanya. “I am saddened by the decision of the PATAFA committee and their recommendations, but I am not really surprised. I am relieved that I now finally know what I am being charged with. On my removal from the national pool, I am always willing to compete for the flag and the country I love with my entire being. I have said before that the only reason I will not jump for the Philippines is if Philip Juico won’t let me jump for the country,” paliwanag nito sa kanyang official Facebook post. “On the recommendation of filing of ESTAFA, I am ready to face all cases and charges filed against me in any court or forum. I am hopeful that I will have my fair day in court and that I can finally end this baseless witch hunt.”

Pingris, bomalabs sa MPBL; UFC Boss, positive sa COVID

Ang dapat sana'y pagbabalik aktìbong paglalaro ni Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) legend Marc Pingris buhat sa retirement ay hindi na matutuloy. Nakatakda sanang lumaro si Pingris sa koponan ng Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards sa Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL). Pero nagbago ang isip ng 9-time PBA champion at 3-time Defensive Player of the Year."I'm not ready yet. I need to be in tip-top condition before I come back from retirement," ani Pingris. Dalawang taon ng retirado at hindi naglalaro ang 2-time PBA Finals MVP at miyembro ng PBA's 40 Greatest Players. Ang totoo, nakapag-ensayo na si Pingris kasama ng koponan ng Nueva Ecija. Pero matapos ang kanyang personal assessment, napagtanto nyang hindi agad maibabalik ang kanyang playing form.

Samantala, nagpositibo si UFC President Dana White sa COVID-19. Sa panayam ng Jim Rome Podcast, inihayag ng UFC big boss na siya maging ang kanyang buong pamilya ay tinamaan ng virus makaraang bumisita sa Maine. “We just went up to my place in Maine for Thanksgiving. It’s a tradition we go up there and somebody had it. We get back and we all tested positive for COVID,” saad ni White. “Literally the whole family and my family up in Maine, too.”

Ayon kay White, alam aniyang may COVID na siya bago pa man na-test dahil nawalan siya ng pang-amoy at panlasa pagkauwi niya ng bahay.
