PCSO turns over 500 ChariTimba to Obando, Bulacan

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) turned over 500 ChariTimba food

packs to the municipality of Obando, Bulacan, on September 16, 2025, as part of its

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.

The turnover ceremony was led by PCSO Assistant General Manager for the Charity Sector, Atty. Lauro Patiag. The food packs were received by Councilor Felipe Dela Cruz, representing the local government of Obando.

According to Dela Cruz, the food packs will be distributed to families severely affected

by tropical storms Crising, Dante, and Emong, which struck the province in July 2025.

Through this initiative, PCSO reaffirms its commitment to extending assistance to

disaster-affected communities and upholding its mandate to serve the Filipino people

with compassion and care.

Maynilad mobilizes volunteers for ICC 2025

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) mobilized 120 employee-volunteers and media partners for the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) 2025, collecting a total of 631 kilos of plastics, rubber, wood, and other debris from Manila Bay near SM By the Bay in Pasay City and other cleanup sites in Parañaque, Navotas, Manila, Quezon City, as well as Noveleta and Bacoor in Cavite.

To support participants across these cleanup sites, Maynilad provided 500 hydration jugs and set up handwashing stations, helping ensure that volunteers could stay hydrated and maintain proper hygiene throughout the activity.

“Joining the ICC reflects our commitment to protect waterways and promote environmental stewardship,” said Maynilad Chief Sustainability Officer Atty. Roel S. Espiritu. “Beyond this annual event, Maynilad continues to implement programs that safeguard water sources, reduce waste, and encourage sustainable practices in the communities we serve.”

The ICC in the Philippines is led by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) under Presidential Proclamation No. 470, which designates every third Saturday of September as ICC Day. The annual activity engages government agencies, private organizations, and community groups in removing debris from waterways and raising public awareness about marine pollution.

DOST Region 2 strengthens technology transfer through fairness opinion

To ensure that innovative technologies from local research institutions find their way to industry partners, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 02 continue to advance its efforts in technology transfer and commercialization through a series of Fairness Opinion Board (FOB) Meetings. 

Recently, the Fairness Opinion Report (FOR) for the C-TRIKE technology, a locally developed transport innovation by Cagayan State University, was endorsed for adoption by LMPRESS Corp. in Iguig, Cagayan. This adoption highlights the region’s push for sustainable mobility and the utilization of homegrown solutions to address community needs.

In another FOB Meeting, the adoption of Isabela State University’s (ISU) 3-flavored duck egg technology was endorsed for Aqu Chick Boy Meat Shop & General Merchandise in San Mateo, Isabela. This flavored duck egg innovation aims to add value to traditional products, create agribusiness opportunities, and support local enterprises.

The FOB Meeting was facilitated by the FOB Secretariat under the leadership of Regional Director Virginia G. Bilgera, ensuring that the evaluation process was transparent, participatory, and aligned with DOST’s technology transfer guidelines.

Mandated under the Philippine Technology Transfer Act of 2009 (RA 10055), the Fairness Opinion Board (FOB) is an independent body of experts that reviews technology transfer agreements to ensure they are fair, reasonable, and beneficial to both research institutions and industry adopters, safeguarding public interest while fostering stronger research-industry collaboration.

Through these technology adoptions, DOST-02 continues to fulfill its mission of bridging research outputs to industry applications, empowering local businesses, and contributing to the socio-economic growth of the Cagayan Valley Region.
