West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) has earned nine ISO certifications from international certifying body TÜV Rheinland, underscoring the company’s continued commitment to quality, environmental stewardship, and workplace safety across its operations.

The certifications cover three major facilities—Putatan Water Treatment Plant 2 in Muntinlupa, Parañaque NEW WATER Treatment Plant, and the Novaliches Pumping Station and Reservoir—which were assessed and found compliant with international standards for Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015), Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2015), and Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (ISO 45001:2018).

“These certifications speak to the kind of work our teams do every day. They follow global standards not just for compliance, but because they know it keeps our operations reliable and our communities safe,” said Atty. Roel S. Espiritu, Maynilad’s Chief Sustainability Officer and Head of Quality, Sustainability and Resiliency Division.

With these latest recognitions, Putatan Water Treatment Plant 2 now holds five ISO certifications, having previously earned ISO 50001:2018 (Energy Management System) and ISO 22301:2019 (Business Continuity Management System). The Parañaque NEW WATER Treatment Plant, which produces high-quality potable water through advanced wastewater recycling technology, obtained its first set of ISO certifications, while the Novaliches Pump Station and Reservoir received its initial accreditations under Maynilad’s Integrated Management System (IMS) program.

Maynilad now maintains a total of 292 ISO certifications under its partnership with TÜV Rheinland—one of the largest certification portfolios in the Philippine water industry—affirming the company’s sustained adherence to globally recognized operational, environmental, and safety standards.

January 26-Maynilad cuts NRW to 30.7 percent by yearend 2025

Photo: Maynilad contractors conduct pipe replacement works in Manila, one of the operational interventions under the company’s intensified non-revenue water (NRW) reduction program, which brought NRW down to 30.7% by end-2025 from 38.4% a year earlier.

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) made significant headway in reducing water losses in 2025, closing the year with a Non-Revenue Water (NRW) level of 30.7%, down from 38.4% in December 2024.

This 7.7 percentage-point reduction translates to 256 million liters per day (MLD) of recovered water—roughly equivalent to the output of a water treatment plant and enough to meet the daily needs of more than 1.6 million people. On a full-year basis, Maynilad achieved a YTD average NRW of 34.9%, a five percentage-point improvement from 2024, signaling sustained momentum toward its long-term targets.

“This progress reflects the collective effort of our teams and the effectiveness of our multi-pronged approach to NRW reduction. Every liter of water recovered improves system efficiency by reducing the need to overproduce treated water, allowing us to optimize treatment, pumping, and distribution using existing assets, while strengthening our ability to provide reliable service while stewarding resources responsibly,” said Maynilad Chief Operating Officer Christopher J. Lichauco.

Throughout 2025, Maynilad scaled up operational interventions to accelerate leak detection, leak repair, meter replacement, and pipeline rehabilitation. The company repaired over 70,000 small leaks—a 22% increase from the previous year—alongside 206 large pipe leaks in primary distribution systems and 82 kilometers of old pipelines replaced in high-loss areas.

Maynilad also leveraged technology-enabled solutions to boost field productivity, including AI-assisted leak localization through tools like Infrawise and the pilot deployment of GAILL (Geo-AI Leak Locator).

“These innovations helped optimize our field activities and allowed us to detect and resolve leaks faster—especially in areas where traditional methods are less effective,” said Central NRW Head Engr. Ryan B. Jamora.

Maynilad’s NRW reduction program remains a cornerstone of its broader service reliability strategy, with ongoing efforts geared toward achieving its 2027 target of 25% NRW, as committed in its business plan for the 2023–2027 rate rebasing period.

Date of Release: January 19, 2026

More than 90% of employees of Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) joined “Walk the Line” field activities in 2025, demonstrating the company’s commitment to inclusive, on-the-ground action in the fight against water loss.

With support from local government units and barangay officials, these employee deployments spanned 199 locations across 12 cities, covering over 1,070 kilometers of pipelines and resulting in more than 1,700 actual leak repairs. These outputs significantly bolstered ongoing water loss management activities, helping to expedite leak detection and response on the ground.

The initiative forms part of Maynilad’s broader campaign to reduce Non-Revenue Water (NRW) and improve service reliability for its customers across the West Zone.

“Walk the Line encourages employees from all levels to see, firsthand, the challenges our technical teams face on the ground. It’s a chance to help detect leaks, inspect pipelines, and identify signs of water loss,” said Central NRW Head Engr. Ryan B. Jamora. “Their observations and reports helped surface issues faster and contributed meaningfully to our field operations.”

The monthly field activities not only deepen internal appreciation for Maynilad’s water loss management efforts, they also reinforce a culture of sustainability and accountability within the organization.

“The ‘Walk the Line’ initiative reflects Maynilad’s commitment to responsible water stewardship. It shows how every individual—regardless of role—can make a real contribution toward sustainable resource management,” said Chief Sustainability Officer Atty. Roel S. Espiritu.

The program complements the company’s comprehensive NRW reduction strategy, which includes active leak detection, pressure management, pipe rehabilitation, and community engagement. Employee involvement is key to strengthening these efforts and ensuring long-term water security.
