Maynilad, DENR partner for “Run vs. Plastics”

Around 800 people from the government and private sector took part in the “Run vs. Plastics” Fun Run held recently at the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center in Quezon City. Organized by West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), this project seeks to reinforce the agency’s nationwide campaign to reduce plastic pollution.

Maynilad’s Poblacion WTP wins “Water Project of the Year” in Global Water Awards

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) bagged the “Water Project of the Year” award for its Poblacion Water Treatment Plant (WTP) during the Global Water Awards 2024 held recently in London, England. Maynilad was the sole awardee from the Philippines.

The Poblacion WTP is one of three Maynilad treatment plants that use Laguna Lake as raw water source. Besting other finalists for “Water Project of the Year” from reputable utilities in Australia, Israel and the United States, Maynilad’s Poblacion WTP was chosen for having the greatest innovation in terms of optimizing its physical or environmental footprint.

The Global Water Awards is held annually during the Global Water Summit, a business conference participated in by major water industry players worldwide. The awards—established by the Global Water Intelligence—give recognition to the most important achievements in the international water industry, particularly those initiatives that move the industry forward through improved operating performance, innovative technology adoption and sustainable financial models.

Nominations are shortlisted by a panel of industry experts, and the winners are voted for by the international water community.

“We are honored to have been given this prestigious award for our water treatment plant in Poblacion, Muntinlupa. This recognition underscores our commitment to optimizing the environmental footprint of our operations, ensuring sustainable solutions for the future of water management,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez.

The Poblacion WTP is part of Maynilad’s service enhancement program, which aims to enhance water sustainability and climate resiliency. Commissioned in 2023, it can produce 150 million liters per day (MLD) of potable water at full capacity, serving around 1.7 million customers in the southern part of the West concession.

Maynilad tapped the consortium composed of Acciona and DMCI for the design, construction, operations, maintenance and commissioning of the Poblacion WTP. Meanwhile, global firm Arup served as consultant.

(Maynilad) is offering septic tank cleaning services to its residential and semi-business customers this April in select parts of Caloocan, Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon, Manila, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, Quezon City, Valenzuela, and Cavite Province at no extra cost.

Maynilad’s sanitation program is one of the company’s efforts to lessen pollution loading into Metro Manila’s river systems. “We ask our customers to avail of this service, as it will help to protect community health and the environment,” said Maynilad Chief Operating Officer Randolph T. Estrellado.

Customers residing in Barangay 1, 10, 81, 82, 84 to 88, 90 to 95, 97 to 99, 101 to 103, 105, 106, 108 to110 in Caloocan; Brgy. Pamplona 1 and 3, and Pulang Lupa Dos in Las Piñas; Brgy. Catmon, Maysilo, and Tugatog in Malabon; Brgy. Putatan and Sucat in Muntinlupa; Brgy. Bagumbayan North, Bangculasi, Daang-hari, San Rafael Village, Navotas East and West, and Tanza in Navotas; Brgy. Don Bosco in Parañaque; Brgy. Capri, Bagong Silangan, Gulod, and Holy Spirit in Quezon City; and Brgy. Lingunan, Mabolo, Mapulang Lupa, and Punturin in Valenzuela City may avail of Maynilad’s desludging service.

Moreover, some Maynilad customers in Cavite Province, particularly in Brgy. Aniban 2, 4, and 5, Mambog 1, Molino and Molino 6, Queens Row East in Bacoor City; and Poblacion 2-A, 2-B, 3-A, 3-B, 4-C and 4-D, Buhay na Tubig, Medicion 1-A to 1-D, Medicion 2-A, Medicion 2-C, Medicion 2-D, Tanzang Luma1-6, Toclong 1-A, 2-B, and 2-C in Imus City may avail of the company’s septic tank cleaning services at no extra cost. Septic tank cleaning service normally costs around Php 4,700 per truck.
