Maynilad completes 19.69-km pipe replacement project in North Caloocan

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) has completed the replacement of 19.69 kilometers of old and undersized pipes in the northern part of Caloocan City, helping to enhance service reliability in the area.

The Php191-million project involves replacing the 23-year-old pipes in Barangay Bagong Silang, which have developed leaks and caused low water pressure. The new pipes, with a larger diameter, will be able to carry more water to meet the increased demand from the city’s growing population.

Expected to be fully commissioned within October 2024, these new pipelines will boost water pressure in the area from below 7psi (pounds per square inch) to as high as 16 psi for around 38,000 customers in the area. At 16 psi, water supply can reach the third storey of a structure without the aid of a booster pump.

This pipe replacement project also enabled Maynilad to recover around 5 MLD (million liters per day) of potable water that had previously been lost through leaks in the aging distribution system. This water volume recovery translates to additional water supply for some 33,500 individuals. 

“This project is a crucial step in ensuring that our infrastructure can keep pace with the growing demand of the city’s expanding population. By upgrading these old pipes to large ones, we are not only reducing water losses but also improving the distribution system to deliver more reliable water service to our customers,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez.

Maynilad has allocated Php4 billion in 2024 for various pipe replacement projects in Caloocan, Valenzuela, Quezon City, Manila, Makati, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, and Imus.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire of Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) in the Philippines in terms of customer base. Its service area includes the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres and Sta. Maynilad offers desludging services this October

(Maynilad) is offering septic tank cleaning services to its residential and semi-business customers this October in select parts of Caloocan, Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon, Manila, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, Quezon City, Valenzuela, and Cavite Province at no extra cost.

Maynilad cleans 272 kms of sewer lines in H1 2024

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) has cleaned a total of 272 kilometers of sewer lines during the first half of 2024, achieving 54% of its full-year target of 500 kilometers.

The regular cleaning of sewer lines is essential to ensuring the efficient transport of wastewater from households to Maynilad’s sewage treatment plants, where the wastewater undergoes treatment to meet environmental standards before its discharge to the ecosystem. These efforts play a vital role in maintaining sanitary conditions, safeguarding both community health and the environment.

“Regular maintenance of our sewer lines is essential to preventing issues that could impact public health. Our commitment to cleaning and maintaining our sewerage systems ensures that wastewater is effectively managed and treated, in line with our mandate to provide reliable services to our customers,” said Maynilad Wastewater Management Division Head, Engr. Zmel Grabillo.

Maynilad provides this service in “sewered areas”, or those covered by sewerage systems, namely: parts of Manila, Quezon City, Muntinlupa, Makati, Pasay and Parañaque. For “unsewered areas”, the company provides desludging or septic tank cleaning services, which are offered at no additional cost to customers.
