Ihinahanda na para sa maramihang produksyon at paggamit ang COVID-19 testing kits na nilikha ng mga siyentista ng University of the Philippines (UP). Sa opisyal na pahayag ng UP Office of the Student Regent, natapos na ang field validation ng test kits nuong Abril 1. Nauna nang inaprubahan ng Food and Drug Administration Philippines (FDA) ang GenAmplify Corona Virus 2019 rRT PCR Detection Kit at nakatakdang bigyan ng Certificate of Product Registration ngayong araw. Bukas na ikinasang simulan ang produksyon ng local testing kits. Ayon sa UP, mas mura at mas mabilis ang paglalabas ng resulta ng testing kits kumpara sa mga inangkat mula sa ibang mga bansa. "A number of testing kits, which can do up to 26,000 tests, will be distributed for field implementation from April 4 to 25. Currently in production are testing kits that can accommodate up to 120,000 tests," ayon sa UP. Ang field implementation ay pinondohan ng Department of Science and Technology at UP National Institutes of Health Project. "We urge everyone to unite in calling for the ensured conduct of mass testing and for the national government to truly support this project. Pro-people, rights-based medical solutions are needed more than ever," dagdag pahayag nito.
